Intro visit: Getting acquainted. We will discuss your interest in having a doula, explore and discuss your pregnancy and priorities for your birth. This initial visit takes place in-person and is free of charge and lasts 30 minutes.
Prenatal visit 1 (between week 24-30): Building a bond & preparing. We will discuss your Intake Form and address any fears and concerns you might have, as well as your hopes and dreams for the birth. You will learn what you can do physically and mentally to prepare your body for birth.
Prenatal visit 2 (between week 30-34): Understanding options. This visit takes place in your home. We will begin creating your birth plan by going through a list of possibilities, outcomes, and interventions as well as address any questions you might like to discuss with your care provider. We will also practice comfort techniques, birthing positions and pushing positions. Dad and I will role play various scenarios that may come up in the hospital. We will touch on breast feeding and postpartum health. After this visit you will put the finishing touches on your birth preferences. Then, via email or phone, we will fine tune that plan. We will also discuss induction. I will explain what a hospital induction entails. I will also explain your options for natural induction; this will give you the tools to avoid a traditional induction should you wish to.
If a 3rd Prenatal visit is necessary, we will most likely conduct it via FaceTime.
Labor, birth and up to two hours postpartum: I encourage us to have phone contact as soon as your birthing time begins and will come to you in your active birthing time (when surges are 4-5 minutes apart). I can meet you at your home, stay with you there for as long as you are comfortable, and then accompany you to the birth place, or meet you directly at the birth place. Once I’m with you, I’ll stay with you during the entire birth, and for 1-2 hours postpartum.
Postpartum visit: I like to get together with you within two weeks after the baby is born. During thevisit we will admire your new baby and see how you feel about your birthing experience. We will also discuss postpartum healing, infant care, and breastfeeding.
Rush Prenatal (36 weeks and later): For those who are hiring me after 36 weeks, we may opt to have one long prenatal (combining Prenatal Visits 1&2). This ensures that even if your baby comes early you will be as prepared as possible!
