Riley Bennett Spain born April 9, 2014 to Brock and Julia Spain...
"I used the Hypnobirthing methods we practiced religiously and it certainly helped the 40 hours I labored on my own. At that point I had been up 2 nights and was so exhausted and had remained at a 6 for the previous 8 hours so I had an epidural. My water still hadn't broken so they broke my water and gave me pitocin. Finally after another 8 hours I was at a 10 and actively pushed her out. We strayed from the plan but we got a baby. The relaxation techniques I practiced got me through and helped a ton!"

Here is an email that was sent from a mom who used HypnoBirthing for the birth of her second child due to a traumatic first birth experience. Their names have been changed for anonymity…
"...we had a healthy baby girl on the 14th of August. The birth was exactly what I wanted it to be! I was calm and so much more educated this time around. I had to be induced again because she was two weeks late but because of your class I was in control and able to help direct the nurses as to what I wanted the birth to be. They used pitocin but I was able to take charge and tell them what I was comfortable with. In the end they broke my water and within three hours my daughter was in my arms. I hypnobirthed through the whole experience and didn't need any pain meds. A couple of days after the birth John looked at me and told me that watching me give birth was the coolest thing he had ever seen me do because I was so calm and in control. Thank you for helping to give me that strength and calmness. I don't know what I would have done without hypnobirthing, especially because I was induced again. I can not say thank you enough. I hope you and your family are well."
Warm regards,

"Here's a bit of my birth story and how I was able to use techniques you taught us and some notes about an induction drug that worked pretty well for me. I was able to birth Jane (name changed for anonymity) naturally with out any pain medication. It was a long early labor of 34 or so hours of mild to moderate contractions every 7-20 minutes. My amniotic fluid started leaking 24 hours into the early labor and by 30 hours in I was still only 1cm dilated and 90% effaced. Cassie (our midwife) recommended using misoprostol (inserted vaginally) to help bring on stronger contractions. We were hesitant but she explained how it worked and that she has had very good success with it (meaning very, very low c-section rate and not being as intense as Pitocin). I think the misoprostol worked very well for me. 2 hours after the first dose I was having stronger contractions every 3-4 min and 2 hours later I was 4cm dilated. I then received a second dose and in another 4 hours was 8cm dilated. Jane was born 2 hours later.
The breathing techniques really helped me especially during the intense contractions and the transition stage. We didn't use the scripts more than once or twice but the hypnosis practice we did in the months and weeks before helped me get into a meditative state during the contractions. It definitely didn't look like one of the births in the videos you shared. I moved around the room a lot from one position to another. I was in the tub twice (mainly during the transition phase), the toilet a few times, hands and knees on the bed. I started pushing when I was on my knees with my head against the raised bed and ended up giving birth laying on my back with another couple pushes. I followed your advice to wait to push until I felt the urge and pushed probably 10 or so times before she was born. Cassie did not direct me to push until after Jane's head was out. At this point she did tell me to push and because she hadn't told me before I really listened to her at that point. I found out later I needed to get her shoulders out quickly because the cord was wrapped around her neck. Luckily, not too tightly and she never went into distress. Another tip you taught us that I remembered during the pushing phase was to put my chin to my chest and curl forward. I have to admit I wasn't perfect at this and had to be reminded a few times by our doula (Kelli Stanley with Tree of Life Doula Care, highly recommended!)."
